I will try to Fix You

I am hopelessly addicted to Coldplay…!
OK…OK… it’s not that bad. All that I meant is how it affects me every time I listen to them. It’s alternative stuff mostly with an emphasis on rock and, sometimes, pop too which baffles me but I can say for sure – it must be the market economics making their presence felt. Whatever you do, it’s hard to resist a sneaking peek at what the market would like, what would set the dollar mills vending. Popular counts.
Well, I have been listening to their latest album “X&Y”. What draws me close is the undiluted angst, unpretentious in what they have to say. And if you confused that angst with a dark, sordid content, you couldn’t be more wrong. It talks about pain, it talks about longing, it talks about loneliness et al yet just below the surface, you have this whale of hope spouting a tower of shimmering positivism. It could be autobiographical, the mood per se, I am speaking about the band yet you can’t help noticing the way their life must have changed with the successes they have had with their past releases. “Fix You” is a track that you just begin to think is another song from the bandwagon, when in the last two minutes, it explodes into notes of pure positive energy which just about keeps kissing the clouds of surreal possibilities.
Chris Martin is at his phlegmatic best or is it my imagination that he sounds that way – but it sure does a favor to the angst that begs to be mentioned to millions around the world. That’s why they like him and his motley crew. They are a cut (above? Only time will tell that…) apart from the predictable fare doing their sick rounds in the music circuit.
Yet, let me warn you, this album will make you smile. I can’t find the words to express what that smile is all about, but when you do, you will know. Just like those other things beautiful that defy description.
It will tell you that pain and angst is all right, because they will let you see yourself and, perhaps, make this world a lesser puzzle than what it seems to be. Its about healing.

When you try your best but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse
When the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
and ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.

Here is Fix You (Sigh)
